Tenebrae, a new work for the Hillard Ensemble and Arditti Quartet by Simon Bainbridge, receives its world premiere at the Wigmore Hall, London, on 7 November. A setting of poetry by Paul Celan, the piece has been commissioned for the occasion by the Hilliard Ensemble (pictured) and plays on the relationship between the four singers and the string quartet. It will be performed as part of a series of three concerts presented by the vocal ensemble which contrast medieval repertoire with contemporary works.
Bainbridge, whose Two Trios was premiered as part of the Endymion Ensemble’s thirtieth anniversary celebrations at Kings Place earlier this year, is currently working on a concerto for orchestra for Northern Sinfonia.
