There is the opportunity to learn more about the music of John Tavener as BBC Radio 3 devotes their daily programme Composer of the Week to Tavener the week of 21 September 2009. Throughout the five days of programmes (daily at 12 noon and repeated 22.00), presenter Donald Macleod explores Tavener’s life and music. The programme will explore his early musical success, his works influenced by religious orthodoxy, and the wider influences and inspirations for his music.
Friday's edition of the programme will include the first broadcast of Towards Silence, one of Tavener's most recent pieces, premiered earlier this year.
