The festival theme for the 2009 Pèlerinages, Kunstfest Weimar is ‘ideals’ and with the commission of a new film score to a film by Russian avant-garde director Dziga Vertov (The eleventh year, 1928) it encompasses long gone ideals as well as a contemporary approach with today’s music. Michael Nyman has composed the music and will premiere it on August 29 2009 in Weimar with the Michael Nyman Band. It will be the second score for a film by Dziga Vertov following “The Man with the Movie Camera” in 2002 which is available for the Michael Nyman Band as well as in an orchestral version .
Michael Nyman's live dates will also take him to Australia, Italy and Portugal this summer and there will be a very special performance at Bestival
