‘Outside the English tradition’

‘Outside the English tradition’
A recording of the complete organ works of Peter Dickinson performed by Jennifer Bate is now available on Naxos. Dickinson, who is also a highly regarded pianist and the author of books on John Cage, Lennox Berkeley and Lord Berners among others, began his musical life as organ scholar at Queen’s College, Cambridge, yet describes his music as being "far from the English cathedral tradition" incorporating diverse elements such as jazz and ragtime. The recording includes his Blue Rose Variations, Paraphrase I and Millennium Fanfare.
