Celebrating new choral music
The 2009 London Festival of Contemporary Church Music will include works by Patrick Hawes, Kenneth Leighton, Peter Maxwell Davies, John McCabe, Giles Swayne, John Tavener and Judith Weir. Performances take place around the city from May 9 to 17 at venues including St Pancras Parish Church (pictured), Southwark Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

The concerts are not limited to music for voices – on May 12 John McCabe will perform a selection of his own piano works, including Tenebrae, Tunstall Chimes and Aubade.

On May 10 organist Roger Sayer will give the world premiere of Toccata by Patrick Hawes at Westminster Cathedral.
