This April sees the 70th birthday of John McCabe and in celebration there are a number of concerts and events throughout the year.
World premiere performances include Upon Entering a Painting for four hands at the piano, and two commissions from the Three Choirs Festival – Woefully array’d to be performed by Stile Antico and Songs of the Garden (orchestrated version) to be performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Special birthday concert features include a short residency at Manchester University (where McCabe was a student) in March, and in April a concert at Lighthouse in Poole where the composer has been invited to programme a concert of music either chosen or written by him. For this concert he will also take part as a pianist alongside The Pavao String Quartet and soprano Sarah Leonard. September will also see a special birthday concert at London’s Cadogan Hall.

All this in addition to McCabe’s own piano recitals (he has always enjoyed working as a composer and performer) and forthcoming features on BBC Radio 3 including Composer of the Week and Afternoon on 3.
Each event is listed in our calendar section, and watch out for new updates throughout this year.
