Films to Write Music To
Film and music collide in an evening of classic film scores and a musical celebration of Poland's cinematic heritage. On April 8 at London’s Barbican Centre, The Michael Nyman Band form a unique collaboration with cutting-edge Polish accordion group Motion Trio to revisit some of Nyman's most acclaimed scores and give the world premiere of his new filmic score inspired by the visual history of Polish cinema. The event will begin with Nyman revisiting some of his acclaimed scores for Peter Greenaway’s films including The Draughtsman’s Contract, Drowning by Numbers and Prospero’s Books. The phenomenal technique and avant-garde approach of the Motion Trio adds a new aural dimension to these classic Nyman scores. The climax to the event is the world premiere of Nyman’s latest musical work, a personal celebration of classic Polish cinema. Here he has composed a new work to a montage of extracts from the Polish films which have inspired him, featuring many remarkable and visually stunning images from great Polish filmmakers such as Andrzej Wajda, Andrzej Zulawski, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Andrzej Munk and Dorota Kędzierzawska. This event will mark the closing night of the KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival.
