Gregory Burke’s play Black Watch won four Olivier Awards at the glittering ceremony at the beginning of March: Best New Play, Best Director (John Tiffany), Best Theatre Choreographer and Best Sound Design – the most awards for any single production. As The Times puts it, “With balletic grace, gallows humour and visceral horror, the play presented a squaddie's view of the Iraq war and put the fledgeling National Theatre of Scotland on the map.” It feature the music of Michael Nyman in a much-praised soundtrack.
