VocalEssence brings America to England
Works by Eric Whitacre and Aaron Jay Kernis will be on the programme when one of America’s leading chamber choirs visits the UK in January.

The 32-strong ensemble singers of VocalEssence will perform a programme of American music ranging from the eighteenth century to the present day under the direction of their conductor and artistic director Philip Brunelle.

The choir will also give the UK premiere of My Dancing Day by Richard Rodney Bennett at a lunchtime concert in the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral on January 23 and later the same day at the Chapel of King's College, Cambridge. The piece was commissioned by VocalEssence in 2008.

The tour takes in Oxford, Birmingham, Ely, Cambridge and London, including performances at London’s St John’s Smith Square and the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge. In their final concert, VocalEssence will join forces with the BBC Singers in a concert at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios.
