From November to December 2008, Bright Sheng travels on a field research trip through part of the southern route of the Silk Road, including Vietnam (south through north) and southern China to research traditional and folk music. This is an effort to continue the Silk Road research he started in the year 2000.
The cities on his trip will be:
Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Hanoi, Kunming, Chengdu, Guiyang, and Nanning
