Novello Handel Edition – new publication
In anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the death of Handel in 2009, the latest publication in the Novello Handel Edition is a new edition of Handel’s Chandos Anthem No 9, O praise the Lord with one consent, edited by Graydon Beeks.

Scored for soprano, two tenors and bass soloists, SATB choir and small orchestra, the piece was composed for the Earl of Carnarvon around 1718, during the period that also saw the composition of Acis and Galatea. Setting words from Psalm 135, the piece is a celebratory work which culminates in a jubilant chorus of alleluias ‘Your voices raise’. Listen to an extract

Several other new editions are in preparation in the run-up to the 2009 anniversary, among them Semele and the Ode for St Cecilia’s Day.
