Scored for soprano, two tenors and bass soloists, SATB choir and small orchestra, the piece was composed for the Earl of Carnarvon around 1718, during the period that also saw the composition of Acis and Galatea. Setting words from Psalm 135, the piece is a celebratory work which culminates in a jubilant chorus of alleluias ‘Your voices raise’. Listen to an extract
