This year’s annual Malcolm Arnold Festival in Northampton on October 18-19 will feature a rare concert performance of Arnold’s one-act opera The Open Window. Based on a short story by Saki, the opera was composed in 1956 for a BBC television broadcast.

The festival will open with the unveiling of a specially commissioned bust of the composer at the Royal & Derngate Theatre. Other notable highlights of this year’s festival include a concert of Arnold’s choral music, including his Two Ceremonial Psalms and John Clare Cantata, as well as a performance of his Concerto for Guitar & Chamber Orchestra and Serenade for Guitar & Strings featuring Julian Bream.
