A Song more silent

A Song more silent
A Song more silent, a new disc of music commissioned for remembrance featuring Portsmouth School Chamber Choir and the London Mozart Players, is released on Avie Records on October 20. Alongside works by Cecilia McDowall, Lynne Plowman and Sally Beamish, the disc features And there was a great calm by Tarik O’Regan, which was commissioned by Portsmouth Grammar School in 2005.

The piece takes its title from Thomas Hardy’s poem of the same name, but also sets words by Milton, Mathwani of Jalalu-'d'Din Rumi and Wordsworth among others, beginning in a mood of contemplation but concluding in a spirit of optimism.
