Gabriela Lena Frank is inducted into the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s Alumni Hall of Famein their Brillante category in September. Given annually to a former scholarship recipient, the Brillante inductee is awarded “for personifying limitless potential.”

HSF’s Alumni Hall of Fame was created in 2001 to inspire future generations of Latino college graduates by highlighting and honoring five outstanding Latinos, whose personal stories and accomplishments demonstrate the power of higher education. Frank, who received multiple scholarships from the fund will be the first composer admitted to the Alumni Hall of Fame.

Frank remarks on this prestigious, and personally meaningful award: “It’s an honor to stand with the other people being inducted to the HSF’s Hall of Fame! Each year the inductees hail from a wide variety of disciplines — I’m so happy they’ve included a composer in their midst. Furthermore, the organization’s mission to assist with the higher education goals of Latinos has made it possible for each one of us to pursue our life’s work, and it’s unbelievably meaningful to me that they see me as inspiring future generations of Latino youth. I hope to be worthy of the recognition.”
