John Tavener - London premiere for Requiem
Audiences in London will have their first chance to hear the Requiem by John Tavener this autumn when it is given its London premiere by the City of London Sinfonia at Cadogan Hall on November 14. Conducted by Richard Hickox, the soloists will include soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and tenor Andrew Kennedy, both of whom performed in the work’s premiere earlier this year.

Commissioned as part of the 2008 European Capital of Culture Programme, the Requiem was first performed in Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral in February. Following the premiere, Richard Morrison wrote in The Times that “though pithy by Tavener's metaphysical standards (a mere 35 minutes) [the Requiem] is vast in concept. ...I found it overwhelmingly touching.”
