John Tavener – Anthems from the Veil of the Temple
Five anthems capturing some of the most memorable moments of John Tavener’s all-night vigil The Veil of the Temple are now available. Published as a collection for the first time, the anthems have been arranged for SATB chorus, making them suitable for performance by amateur and professional choir alike.

Conceived as a journey from darkness to light, The Veil of the Temple was premiered in the Temple Church, London, in 2003. It has subsequently been performed in New York, Amsterdam and Berlin, and in a concert version at the BBC Proms.

The anthems range from the breathtakingly simple Mother of God, here I stand and the quietly ecstatic Awed by the Beauty, both for unaccompanied chorus, to the sonorous You mantle yourself in light, the contemplative What God is we do not know and the radiant O Mary Theotokos, each with organ accompaniment.
