This year’s Carinthian Summer Festival in the south of Austria will feature John Tavener as composer in residence. The festival’s core piece is the performance of a religious opera in the Abbey Church of Ossiach. For this occasion Tavener has created a chamber version of his opera Mary of Egypt which will receive its world premiere on July 11. Distinguished performers in the festival’s a series of Tavener’s works are Patricia Rozario, Garth Knox, Bamberger Symphoniker and the Schoenberg Choir Vienna.
