Michael Nyman: Songs & Arias
A long-awaited first collection of songs by Michael Nyman has just been published by Chester Music. The volume, entitled “Michael Nyman: Songs & Arias” features a wide selection of works written for screen, concert hall or opera house, all arranged for high voice and piano.

Highlights include the complete “Ariel Songs” from the soundtrack to the Peter Greenaway film “Prospero’s Books”, “I am an Unusual Thing” from the Mozart-based television opera “Letters, Riddles and Writs”, and two of the Celan Songs , as well as extracts from the operas Facing Goya and Man and Boy: Dada .

The album also includes the highly popular songs “If” and “Why”, originally written for a Japanese animated film of “The Diary of Anne Frank”. This is the first time that these songs have been available outside of Japan.
