The World’s Desire
19th May 2008

The World’s Desire was composed for the BBC Northern Singers in 1984. Drawing on both Western and Eastern liturgies for the Feast of the Epiphany, the piece combines texts from St John’s Gospel, GK Chesterton and the Russian Orthodox Service.
Also recorded for the first time are Leighton’s Morning Canticles, settings of the Venite, Te Deum and Jubilate written for the centenary of Monkton Combe School and first performed in St Paul’s Cathedral, London, in 1968.
The disc also includes Leighton’s Sequence for All Saints, Chorale Prelude on ‘Rockingham’ and the anthem O God, enfold me in the sun.
