Dance and Music

Dance and Music
G. Schirmer and the Music Sales Group are honored to have a catalogue of composers renowned in their work with dance. To name only a few examples from our extensive roster of contemporary and historic composers: Sergei Prokofiev and his celebrated Romeo and Juliet; Igor Stravinsky and his groundbreaking Les Noces; Henry Cowell's maverick explorations with the pioneering modern dancers; Samuel Barber, Gian Carlo Menotti, Carlos Surinach and their work with Martha Graham; Bright Sheng, the first ever Composer-in-Residence at the New York City Ballet; Michael Gordon, David Lang, Julia Wolfe, Michael Nyman and each of their ongoing collaborations with contemporary choreographers; and most recently, Nico Muhly’s work with the American Ballet Theatre, Joby Talbot's settings for Christopher Wheeldon's inventive contemporary ballet company, Morphoses, and Esa-Pekka Salonen's work with Diavolo Dance Theater in Los Angeles.

To celebrate Dance and Music collaboration, G. Schirmer and the Music Sales Group have produced a booklet that highlights some of the associations our composers have had over recent years with choreographers and dance companies.

In addition to the Dance and Music Booklet, we offer other complimentary resources including sampler recordings, scores, and advice about repertoire, commissioning one of our contemporary composers, working with existing music in our catalogue, and pieces of music for learning and outreach work. Please contact us for these or any other question relating to our catalogue of composers: schirmer@schirmer.com.
