The world premiere of Appomattox by Philip Glass takes place on October 5 at the War Memorial Opera House, San Francisco, performed by the San Francisco Opera and conducted by Dennis Russell Davies. The story is based on the historic American Civil War battle that ended when Confederate Army general Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union Army commander Ulysses S. Grant. This production features a libretto by Academy Award winter Christopher Hampton and stage direction by Robert Woodruff and runs until October 24.
