Under the artistic direction of cellist Thomas Demenga, this year’s Davos Festival in Switzerland (July 26-August 9) will feature Barry Guy both as composer and as performer. Among the Guy works that will be included in this “Young Artists in Concert Series” will be his mixed ensemble piece Bird Gong Game (July 30), Celebration for solo violin, written for and performed by his wife Maya Homburger (July 31) and Redshift (August 7th) for 2 cellos, a work originally commissioned in 1998 by Thomas and Patrick Demenga. Long established as one of the world’s leading double bass players, Barry Guy’s successful work as a composer similarly spans both the areas of “straight” concert music and that of jazz and improvisation. Barry Guy and his wife, the baroque violinist Maya Homburger, perform and record internationally on a regular basis. Photo by Gudrun Edel Rösnes
