Maconchy - Songs and Strings at the Proms
The BBC Proms celebrates the centenary of Elizabeth Maconchy with performances of two of her works in August.

On 4 August the Scottish Ensemble performs Music for Strings, which was composed for the Proms in 1983 and is regarded as one of Maconchy’s most brilliant late essays in the medium for which she is perhaps best known.

Tenor Philip Langridge (pictured) will include Four Shakespeare Songs in his recital with David Owen Norris as part of the Proms chamber music series on 13 August. These songs, settings of poems from Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure and Othello, have recently been published for the first time by Chester Music and are now available on sale from Musicroom.com
