The Swedish pianist Roland Pöntinen is best known for his never ending curiosity to explore new repertoire. His encompassing repertoire knowledge is reflected in his subtle programming as in the recital at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr on July 2 2007. Here one can discover works by Rameau, Couperin but also Busoni, Chopin and Albéniz. In addition, the world premiere of Prelude a new work for solo piano by Kaija Saariaho will take place. It complements Ballade written in 2003 for Emmanuel Ax. There will be a TV documentary about Roland Pöntinen focusing on the process of preparing Prelude for the world premiere from the first encounter with the score up to the end of the premiere performance and its reception.
