Tower is no stranger to the La Jolla Music Society — in 2000, SummerFest commissioned her earlier trio, Big Sky. This year, she returns as composer-in-residence. "Trio La Jolla," Tower explains, "was written for my friend Jimmy Lin — violinist extraordinaire...It is a work that tries to negotiate different paths of emotional extremes — going from soft tender lyricism to more aggressive rhythmic patterns of wild dances. I am very much looking forward to working with Jimmy, André, and Gary on this newborn."
Co-commissioned with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Virginia Arts Festival, Trio La Jolla features Lin joining pianist André-Michel Schub and cellist Gary Hoffman for the performance.
