The 2007 Oscar for best foreign film has been won by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's movie debut, Das Leben und Anderen (The Lives of Others). The film focuses on the horrifying, sometimes unintentionally funny system of observation in the former East Germany. The score is by Gabriel Yared and Stéphane Moucha.
