Composer Gian Carlo Menotti Dies
Composer Gian Carlo Menotti has died in a Monaco hospital aged 95. The composer, conductor, pianist, librettist and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner died peacefully on Thursday February 1 in the arms of his son. Menotti was born in Italy in 1911 and was best known for his operas, although he also wrote ballet music and orchestral works. He founded arts festivals in Spoleto in Italy and also in the US.
