Dance Award Winners
The 11th annual South Bank Show Awards were held at the Savoy Hotel on January 23, hosted by Melvyn Bragg. These awards honour the UK’s most creative and popular artists, and the winners are chosen by a public vote. The Dance Award this year went to the Royal Ballet triple bill which was a programme including ‘Chroma’, with music by Joby Talbot and ‘DGV’ by Michael Nyman. Tony Hall, Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House, said that this bill was “one of the most thrilling evenings at the Royal Opera House is 2006. Playing to packed, rapt audiences largely new to us at Covent Garden, the scores from these two magnificent British composers played a huge role in creating the sensational impact this programme had on London.”
