The Finnish Broadcasting Company has announced the world premiere recording of Aulis Sallinen’s opera The King Goes Forth to France as its ‘Recording of the Year’ for 2006. The recording, released on the Ondine label, was selected from nearly 100 recordings either produced in Finland, or presenting Finnish composers or performers. This prestigious award was initiated in 1971, and is awarded annually.
This is the latest in a series of accolades for this highly praised recording, which was “Editor’s Choice” in Gramophone, “Disc of the Month” in Opera magazine, “Opera Choice” in BBC Music Magazine, “Disc of the Week” on BBC Radio 3, and “Classical CD of the Week” in The Daily Telegraph.
