Kaija Saariaho has been awarded with the prestigious Grawemeyer Award for her opera l'Amour de loin. The first production after receiving the award will be at Staatstheater Darmstadt under the direction of Philippe Arlaud and conducted by Stefan Blunier. Hessischer Rundfunk will broadcast live the German premiere, which will take place on 26 April 2003 in presence of the composer and librettist, Amin Maalouf. There will be 7 performances of the opera starting on June 6, 2003.
