Programme Note
Written for 3 string quartets and female voices, If ye love me was composed in Scotland in July and August 2012. It was inspired by the vast stillness and silence of the Scottish landscape.
Like much of my recent music, it is tightly constructed, being based on Byzantine palindromes.
Divine Love is central to all the great religious traditions, and I have tried to reflect that in this piece.

Reviews
"Tavener notes it was inspired by the ‘vast stillness and silence’ of the Scottish landscape and something of this is evoked in its composite chords, which morph in and out of each other."

The sound is simple and ordered, but is no less beautiful for it
