Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (2011)

Commissioned by the Master and Fellows of St John’s College, Cambridge, to mark the 500th anniversary of the founding of the College. The Magnificat was first performed by Andrew Nethsingha and the Choir of St John’s College on 30th October 2011, and the Nunc Dimittis (as part of a complete performance) on 5th February 2012.

... abounds in both rhythmic and harmonic interest. Close attention to dynamics (which are clearly marked) is needed to do the music and the text full justice. The opening of the Nunc dimittis, with the gradual addition of voices adding to an expansion of the texture is most effective, and the Gloria employs the full panoply of the divisi writing.
