String Quartet No. 3 (1993)

In [STRING QUARTET NO. 3] Harbison has come up with something which seems to defy [the] Viennese Classical masters ideal. Much of the material is chant-like [with] rich and complex harmonies [and] stretches of a minimum of rhythmic counterpoint...it [is] a fascinating, alluring and moving musical argument. An especially worthwhile issue.
