Programme Note

First performance:
May 10 2012
Raman Ramakrishnan, cello; Joan Tower, piano
RIOULT; Pascal Rioult, choreographer
John Jay College, New York, NY

Note:
Inspired by T.S. Eliot’s poem “The Waste Land,” choreographer Pascal Rioult’s “The Violet Hour” conjures a similar desolate, raw environment. The dancers transform into inhabitants of this world, consumed with an endless journey over broken images of the past, like cracked stones of barren earth, desperately holding onto dreams of life-renewing rain.

The 19-minutes ballet uses Joan Tower’s “Très Lent” (1994) and “Catching a Wave” (2012) for cello and piano.

“Très Lent“ score and part are for sale; “Catching a Wave” score and part are Hire only.
