Biography

Charlotte Seither's oeuvre comprises works for orchestra, chamber music, music theater, and vocal ensemble. She was the first German to win the first prize at the International Composition Competition Prager Frühling (1995). Since then, she has been a guest at international festivals such as Wien Modern, Gaudeamus Amsterdam, and the BBC Proms.

In 2009, the Rome Prize led her at the German Academy Villa Massimo for a year. As an Artist Fellow, she has also worked at the Cité des Arts Paris (1999), the German Study Center Venice (1993), ArtLab Johannesburg (2015), and Villa Aurora in Los Angeles (2000). At the ISCM World Music Days in Tongyeong (2016), she represented Germany with an orchestral piece in the opening concert. 

Charlotte Seither has been a member of the board of the German Composers' Association (DKV) since 2016 and a member of the executive committee of the German Music Council (DMR) since 2017. She was also a member of the GEMA Supervisory Board (2016-2025). She serves as a juror and curator on international committees.

Charlotte Seither was awarded the Praetorius Music Prize in 2010 for her musical work. In 2014, she received the German Music Authors' Prize from GEMA. In 2020, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon by Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters. In 2020, she was appointed a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) in Salzburg.
