After studying in Vienna (with Franz Schmidt) and Paris (with Darius Milhaud), Rubin was responsible, together with Friedrich Wildgans, for the concert series ‘Musik der Gegenwart’ (Contemporary Music), before he was forced to emigrate in 1938 and went via France to Mexico, where he worked as a répétiteur, conductor and composer. In 1947, he returned to Vienna, where, in addition to his compositional activities, he worked for a long time as a critic and then as an official in important committees (AKM President). With ten symphonies, oratorios and various vocal and chamber music works, Rubin is one of Austria's most prominent composers.
