Rockey Sun Keting

b. 1993



Sun Keting is a London-based China-born composer, researcher, and creative director. Her composition works focus on performing arts and instrumental sound exploration, combining Eastern cultural, spiritual, and philosophical elements. Her works have been described as “the future way to go” (the Independent) and “very attractive for its harmonic imagination, mastery of instrumentation” (the Bachtrack).

Keting’s music has been performed in the U.K., U.S., Europe and Asia. She has composed music for the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Singers, National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Riot Ensemble, The Silk Road Ensemble, Ligeti Quartet, Psappha Ensemble, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan.  

Besides her instrumental work, she has also composed music for film and dance, including Birmingham Royal Ballet - Black Sabbath,  the collaboration with Rome-based Chinese choreographer/artist Huang Xiao and jointly they created dance work Ensō and Now I will do nothing but Listen, both premiered by the London Symphony Orchestra at the LSO St. Lukes. 

Her work has been featured in many venues and festivals worldwide, including the Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, King’s Place, Helsinki Concert Hall, Aldeburgh Festival, Tête-à-tête Festival and National Concert Hall Dublin. 

Keting graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (B.A.) and the Royal Academy of Music (MMus) and is completing a doctorate at the Royal Academy of Music.
