Paul Bonneau was born in 1918 in Moret-sur-Loing (Seine-et-Marne). After studying at the Paris Conservatory he obtained several First Prizes, including that for composition in the class of Henri Busser (1945). He was by then already a member of the SACEM and conductor for the RTF, while the Symphonic Associations in Paris (Concerts Colonne, Concerts Lamoureux) regularly programmed his compositions. As a conductor, he made many records for Pathé-Marconi and Ducretet-Thomson, and also collaborated on 40 full-length films in addition to numerous shorts as either composer or orchestrator.
