Biography

Armenian composer Avet Terterian was born in Baku, Azerbaijan on July 29th 1929. His greatest accolades include winning the Konrad Adenauer Prize and, in a letter to a friend, Dmitri Shostakovich once described the composer as ‘very talented’ and ‘with great future’. Terterian was a friend and colleague of Giya Kancheli, Konstantin Orbelyan and Tigran Mansuryan. He completed eight symphonies, an opera and a number of chamber works. He died on December 11th 1994 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, where the local music festival is named after him.
