Programme Note
Thomson writes that "The Seine at Night is a landscape piece, a memory of Paris and its river, as viewed from one of the bridges to the Louvre.” Rippling water, distant fireworks, and other nocturnal effects find voice in rising scalar passages and falling chordal sequences based on four distinct triads.
