In a remarkable effort, Danish composer and writer Karl Aage Rasmussen has reconstructed the unfinished Finale of Robert Schumann’s Fourth Piano Sonata in a form which makes the music performable as a meaningful whole.  Certainly no stranger to Schumann, Rasmussen has previously orchestrated the composer’s Hans Christian Andersen songs, and is author to the book ”Disturbances: Images of Robert Schumann and his Music.”

On American soil, Avner Dorman has written the contemporary piece for the competitors in the Sixth New York International Piano Competition. Entitled Three Etudes, the piece will be performed by all the pianists at the competition which includes twenty-two talented pianists aged 16-21 from around the world. The New York International Piano Competition will be held at the Manhattan School of Music, with opening ceremonies at Steinway Hall. Steinway is the official piano of The New York International Piano Competition. For more info, click here.
