"Remember This" at Cheltenham Festival
The world premiere of Remember This Op.40 - Cantata for tenor, soprano, string quartet and piano by Ian Venables will take place on June 29 at the Pitteville Pump Room, Cheltenham as part of this year’s Cheltenham Festival of Music .

Remember This is a musical setting of a commemorative poem by Sir Andrew Motion. The work is scored for two voices and chamber ensemble and will be approximately 30 minutes in duration, featuring soprano Caroline MacPhie, tenor Allan Clayton, piano Tom Poster and The Elias String Quartet. Andrew Motion’s poem ‘Remember This’ is an elegy upon the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. It comprises of eight sections interleafed by a narrative that describes her final journey from death, to her public lying in state, funeral and ultimately her burial. The poet’s depiction is broken by a series of short lyrical intermezzos that reflect upon aspects of her life whilst commenting upon their wider significance for humanity. The work has been commissioned by the Birmingham based ‘Limoges Trust’ and will be published by Novello and Co.

This New Generation Artists concert is being recorded by BBC Radio3 and will be broadcast at a later date.
