David Lang wins Pulitzer Prize
14th April 2008
The Pulitzer Prize in Music is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards for composition. Past winners have included Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Samuel Barber, Elliott Carter, John Harbison, Aaron Jay Kernis, John Corigliano and John Adams.
“The Little Match Girl Passion” is a unique work scored for SATB choir playing percussion. It sets Hans Christian Anderson’s story “The Little Match Girl” in the format of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, interspersing the narrative with Lang’s own re-workings of the crowd and character responses from the Bach.
