Judith Weir: Telling the Tale

Judith Weir: Telling the Tale
The BBC Symphony Orchestra’s 21st composer weekend takes place during the weekend of January 18 – 20, and this year features the music of Judith Weir. Hosted by the Barbican, the weekend focuses on music by a composer at the height of her creative powers, performed by artists central to her development, the Schubert Ensemble, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Singers among them and comprises music, films, talks and free events. The weekend concludes with the world premiere of a work for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers entitled CONCRETE . This work, subtitled ‘a motet about London’ and described as ‘an imaginary excavation of the Barbican Centre, burrowing through 2,500 years of historical rubble’, is a sensational new work exploring our lives and the ruins of times past.
