Summary

Melissa Parmenter is an accomplished composer and pianist, graduating from Durham University in music

Her music has been synced several times including in the new Amazon Prime documentary Andy Murray: Resurfacing, the feature film Mum’s List (2016) directed by Niall Johnson, and on Sky Sports. A BT Sport sync using Melissa’s track By The Sea was nominated for Best Sync - TV Show (Sport) at the 2017 Music Week Awards.

Furthermore, Melissa has composed and performed bespoke solo piano works for several other feature films, including Michael Winterbottom’s A Mighty Heart starring Angelina Jolie, 9 Songs with Kieran O’Brien and Margo Stilley, and Topspot, directed by visual artist Tracey Emin.

2020 sees the release of two more films Melissa has produced; the Sony & Film4 financed Michael Winterbottom film Greed starring Steve Coogan, Isla Fisher, and David Mitchell.

SOLO WORK

In 2017 Melissa released her debut EP Scandinavia , a suite of five original compositions with works scored for either solo piano or piano and cello, featuring Melissa on piano with Harry Escott on cello. All tracks were recorded & mixed by Nick Taylor at Air Edel Studios.

Scandinavia showcases Melissa’s life-long love of the piano and her complete mastery of the craft of composition. The works demonstrate her fascination with textures and the layering of sound, and demonstrate how easily and seamlessly she moves between her chosen worlds of film and music and how they are united and perfectly expressed here.

Biography

An accomplished composer and pianist, Parmenter, who graduated from Durham University in music, has scored a number of films, including Winterbottom’s ‘Genova’ (2008), starring Colin Firth and ‘The Killer Inside Me’ (2010), with Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson. She also wrote the score for Simon Aboud’s film ‘Comes A Bright Day’ featuring Timothy Spall, Imogen Poots and Craig Roberts.

Furthermore, Melissa Parmenter has composed and performed solo piano works for several feature films, including Michael Winterbottom’s ‘A Mighty Heart’, starring Angelina Jolie’; ‘9 Songs’ with Kieran O’Brien and Margo Stilley and ‘Topspot’, directed by visual artist, Tracey Emin (2004).

‘Scandinavia’ a suite of five original compositions is her debut recording on the label Globe Soundtrack and Score.
